First Wiki
The first time that I used the wiki, I copy and pasted our proposal information into the document. Since the original document was not created in the wiki itself, the wiki did not contribute or hinder to the experiences when writing. I did however, find it very difficult to edit the wiki and provide any spacing. I tried several times to create tabs and space the wiki proposal so that it looked more like an outline than a list. The best that I was able to accomplish was using bold print to establish breaks in the document. During this use of the wiki, my attitude towards it was still indifferent. Mostly, oh we have to use this okay. I do not feel that the wiki helped me develop any skills that I will use in the future during this first process. The other group members worked on the wiki as well and could not find any way to edit the document to look the way we wanted. One group member used the comments function to post information instead of editing the wiki. This brought the realization that the comment function was not very well planned. The comments show up at the end of the document instead of being able to be embedded throughout like other programs such as Google Docs. At this point, I do not feel confident in using wiki to create any documents for my professional career.
Middle Wiki
The time that I would like to reflect on for editing the wiki is including a multimedia aspect to the wiki. The group and I decided that we wanted to try to bring an augmented reality aspect to our wiki. The idea to create a rollover image came about and though this not exactly augmented reality, it still gives the illusion of an image over another image. The wiki did not have an easy to use method for this so all research on how to create this multimedia aspect was done outside of the wiki. Therefore, I created the HTML code for the rollover and needed to place it into the wiki. I found that the wiki was again not user friendly and that adding information is more difficult that other programs that have drag and drop functions like Weebly. The wiki seems very outdated and it took me a few moments to figure out that to insert this HTML code via the Widget function. Afterwards the spacing nightmare began again. I became very frustrated trying to play with the text and widget to get the information to display properly. I think that in this part of the wiki use, the wiki actually allowed me to increase my knowledge of just using wiki. I know have a better idea of how the wiki is designed so that I can get results faster when editing. Besides the group decision to include this in the wiki, there was little cooperation during this time of the wiki. I still do not prefer using the wiki over other methods and would not choose to use it in the future; however I feel that this experience has made me more confident in using it if needed.
Final Wiki
The contribution to the wiki that I included during this time was the final exam questions. I created the final exam page and input the information for the questions. My first thought was to include an actual quiz into the wiki that people can take instead of just typing in the questions as a document. This did not work very well as I could not find a quiz widget for use. I have the impression that the wiki requires knowledge of building HTML code in order to add anything that does not have an easy to find HTML code. In addition, wiki seems to have “deals” with certain other websites like Quizlet that requires you to sign up for other resources in order to add information into their site. I had a difficult time making the multiple-choice questions as the wiki wanted to use simply numbers or bullets as an option. In addition, when attempting to try out these features, they left a “1.” and a “•” in the document that was unused. I had to reset the entire document to make them disappear. Again, the wiki did not contribute to my education and simply made me frustrated as a user. I do not feel that wiki helped me prepare for the future at all besides just making me more familiar with the limitations of using wiki. My group also has access to the wiki and is able to change the questions or answer choices via the edit function but like I said previously, there is not a great way to collaborate in the wiki besides adding comments to the bottom.
